Full plot (contains spoilers)
During a tour of a Cathar castle, a woman's body is discovered in a torture cage. Dispatched to the scene, gendarmerie lieutenant Pauline Franchet finds her own brother, Victor, there. The young man, who has Down syndrome and is in a state of shock, gives no explanation for being there. Everything points to him. Pauline is taken off the case, and Thomas Costella, a captain in the Montpellier investigative unit, is put in charge of the investigation.
