Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 2050, Mickey Barnes joins a spaceship crew to colonize the ice planet Niflheim as an "Expendable," a worker who is cloned and 'reprinted' upon death. During the voyage, he develops a romance with security agent Nasha. Upon arrival at Niflheim, the crew develops a vaccine from local pathogens. After the 17th Mickey is left for dead by his friend Timo, he is revived by local 'Creepers' and returns to the ship, only to find a 18th clone has been printed. The two Mickeys attempt to coexist while navigating the rules of the expedition leader, Kenneth Marshall. After a series of incidents involving the discovery of sentient Creepers and the threat of execution for 'Multiples,' the Mickeys are forced into a deadly competition to collect Creeper tails for culinary use. Ultimately, Mickey 18 sacrifices himself to save Nasha and others, while Mickey 17 survives to lead the colony. The film ends with Mickey 17 destroying the reprinting machine and making peace with the Creepers.
