A group of Minions attempts to make their own monster movie in 1927 Hollywood, only to find that some monsters might be real.

The story

Set in 1927 during the transition between silent and sound films, the story follows a group of Minions who find themselves in the heart of Old Hollywood. After discovering that a local villain is actually an actor filming a movie, the Minions are hired by a frustrated director to star in his productions. They quickly become a global sensation in the silent film era. However, when the industry shifts toward sound, the Minions' unique communication style makes them unable to adapt, leading them to be cast aside. Determined to keep their passion for storytelling alive, a small group of Minions decides to create their own monster movie, leading them into a world of cinematic magic and literal monsters.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Thousands of years ago, a tribe of Minions—different from those who would serve Gru—stumble upon a warlock's spell book. In 1927, the tribe finds themselves in Hollywood. After being cast out of the mainstream film industry due to the advent of sound, a Minion named James, along with friends Henry and Ed, decides to produce their own film, 'Minions & Monsters.' To populate their movie, they use the warlock's book to summon creatures. However, they are tricked by a malicious green monster named Goomi, who intends to summon a world-destroying blob named Irene. Meanwhile, another group of Minions is led by a robot named Dort, who is trying to conquer the Earth but becomes distracted by a woman named Debbie. The two groups' paths collide when Irene is unleashed and begins causing chaos. The Minions must team up with Dort and his group to stop the monster. After a climactic battle where Irene is defeated, the Minions are hailed as heroes and successfully complete their film. The story concludes with a meta-twist: the entire narrative is revealed to be a film within a film, and the final scene shows the current Minions and Gru's daughter, Agnes, discovering the spell book.
