Miss (2020)

Nine-year-old Alex dreams of becoming Miss France when he grows up. Fifteen years later, having lost his parents in an accident several years earlier, he lives in an unconventional community that includes Yolande, his landlady, and Lola, a drag queen, and feels that his life has reached a dead end. He then unexpectedly runs into a childhood friend who has become a boxing champion, and this gives him the motivation to pursue his dream. Thanks to his androgynous looks and advice from his friend Lola, he gets through the first stage and becomes Miss Île-de-France. He then joins the other contestants to prepare for the Miss France pageant in a highly competitive atmosphere. At first, he struggles to fit in with the group and, in particular, earns the antipathy of Miss Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. But when she discovers his secret, she becomes his strongest ally. Under pressure from the pageant’s demands and torn between this glamorous world and his unconventional chosen family, he loses his footing and stops showing up for rehearsals ahead of the final, nearly losing his place. After suffering an attack, Yolande is hospitalized and falls into a coma. Alex then discovers that his chosen mother, who had openly criticized the very idea of the Miss France pageant, has secretly collected every press article about his journey. He is then readmitted to the competition at the last minute. Alex is chosen as one of the six finalists competing for the title. He then decides to embrace his true nature and reveal his male identity live on television. In doing so, he manages to reconcile with himself.
