The story
While shopping at a supermarket, Mr. and Mrs. Prioux see a stranger take off with their shopping cart and redo their shopping together. At home, they discover that the groceries they bought earlier are already in the house. That evening, they realize the stranger has entered their home, put away the groceries, and is using their bathroom. Among his belongings, they find an old photo of themselves marked “Dad” and “Mom” and a ticket in the name of Patrick Prioux. After washing up, the stranger introduces himself as their son. The Priouxes, who know they have never had children, are wary, and his unusual way of speaking only deepens the mystery.

When they get home, all the groceries they had bought earlier are in their house. That evening, Mr. and Mrs. Prioux realize that the stranger has come into their home, put away their groceries, and is using their bathroom at that very moment. After finishing washing up, he meets the Priouxes and announces that he is their son. Knowing they have never had children, they are initially wary of him. One question remains: who is this mysterious Patrick, who speaks strangely, saying words that Mr. Prioux cannot understand but Mrs. Prioux can? Patrick even calls Mrs. Prioux “Momo,” meaning “Mom.”
