Full plot (contains spoilers)
Late one evening, a young woman calls the police emergency line. She is so distressed that Eva Moreno, who happens to take the call, manages to learn little more than her name and that she is being held captive in a building unfamiliar to her. The call nevertheless lasts long enough for the police to trace it to a deserted building in an industrial area. But by the time Moreno and her companion find the girl, it is too late. Having witnessed her struggle in her final moments and found her body, Moreno feels personally involved and asks her boss to let her take charge of the case. Since she already has a great deal to do, she is forced to seek official help from Jaan Blauveldt (Björn Bengtsson), a representative of the National Criminal Police, and unofficial help from her former boss, Van Veeteren (Sven Wollter), who is now retired.
