The story
Rizvan Khan, an Indian Muslim with Asperger's syndrome, lives in Mumbai before moving to the United States with his brother. In California, he falls in love with and marries Mandira Rathod, a Hindu woman. Their peaceful life is disrupted following the September 11 attacks, which triggers a surge in Islamophobia. After a tragic incident involving their children and a local community, Mandira faces a crisis of identity and safety. Following a confrontation, she demands that Rizvan travel across the country to tell the American people and the President that his name is Khan and he is not a terrorist. Taking her words literally, Rizvan begins a journey to find the President.

Rizvan Khan, an Indian Muslim with Asperger's syndrome, moves to the United States where he marries Mandira Rathod, a Hindu woman. Following the September 11 attacks, their lives are upended by rising Islamophobia. After a tragic incident leads to the death of Mandira's son, she demands Rizvan travel across the country to prove to the President that he is not a terrorist. Rizvan embarks on a journey, stopping in a small town in Georgia where he helps a local community and later confronts a radical extremist in Los Angeles. He is eventually detained at a presidential rally but is released after his story is shared by journalists. Following a hurricane in Georgia, he returns to lead relief efforts. Eventually, Mandira joins him in Georgia, where they are reunited. The film concludes with Rizvan meeting the newly elected President Barack Obama, who publicly acknowledges him, and the couple returning home together.
