The morning after a beach-house birthday party, 16-year-old Flo is found dead in a barricaded sauna, while another partygoer has been raped and the teenagers remember little.
The story
After an excessive birthday party at a beach house attended by six teenagers, 16-year-old Flo is found dead in the sauna the next morning. The door was barricaded, and loud music drowned out his cries and the alarm. Another female partygoer was raped during the party. The teenagers, including Ben, Karin Lossow’s great-nephew, remember nothing because of their alcohol and drug use. Traces of semen suggest Flo had slept with Felice, leading Dr. Brunner to suspect that Ben and Flo were vying for her attention and that Ben may have had a motive. Yet further DNA traces found on Felice do not match any of the partygoers.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After an excessive birthday party attended by a group of six teenagers at a beach house, one of the guests, 16-year-old Flo, is found dead in the sauna the following morning. Someone had barricaded the door, making it impossible for him to escape; because of the loud music, nobody heard his screams or the alarm that had gone off. Another female partygoer was raped at the party. However, the teenagers, including Ben, Karin Lossow’s great-nephew, cannot remember anything because of their alcohol and drug use. When traces of semen indicate that Flo must have slept with Felice, Dr. Brunner suspects that Ben and Flo were vying for the girl’s attention, giving Ben a motive to take revenge on Flo. However, further DNA traces are found on Felice that cannot be matched to any of the partygoers. Karin puts Ben up at the business run by her son-in-law Stefan, who is currently taking a break. Ben’s father Rainer, a police officer in Munich, is at a conference in Berlin and cannot get to Usedom quickly. Horrified by his son’s excesses, he interferes in the ongoing investigation, and Ellen Norgaard has to put him in his place several times. Meanwhile, Felice is placed in a youth hostel under the supervision of police officer Dorit Martens. She has nightmares and is traumatized by what happened. One night, she climbs out of the window and, through a Polish drug dealer who supplied the teenagers with drugs at the party, manages to get a gun. She then lies in wait for an older local man on the beach beneath the pier. And with good reason: on the night of the party, he had gone to complain about the noise and found Felice lying unresponsive and defenseless on a bed, enabling him to rape her. Felice shoots him and runs away. The man is found later and taken to hospital. Everyone searches for Felice. Using a cell phone belonging to the Polish dealer, Ben manages to contact her without being identified. Karin succeeds in getting information out of him and is therefore able to inform Rainer as well. At the harbor, Felice tries to escape on a sailboat, but Rainer stops her. She is taken to the hospital. A flashback reveals that, after being raped, Felice locked Flo in the sauna. She then wanted to go outside for some fresh air, but collapsed in a daze. By the time she came to, she could no longer save Flo. It seems that several mitigating circumstances can be put forward in Felice’s case; at any rate, Ellen advocates for her. Dr. Brunner says only: “This will be an interesting trial.” At the end of the film, Ellen is seen waiting for the result of a pregnancy test. It is positive.
