Full plot (contains spoilers)

Jake Tyler moves to Orlando, Florida, where he faces bullying and social isolation following a viral video of a fight in Iowa. After being humiliated in a fight against the school's MMA champion, Ryan McCarthy, Jake begins training with Jean Roqua. Roqua initially kicks Jake out for fighting outside the gym, but later takes him back for rigorous training. During this time, Jake learns about Roqua's past in Brazil. Jake eventually decides to enter 'the Beatdown,' an underground fighting tournament, to protect his friend Max after Ryan puts him in the hospital. Jake and Ryan progress through the tournament, with Jake reaching the semifinals despite an injury. After Ryan is disqualified for an illegal eye gouge, Jake forfeits the match. However, Ryan confronts him in the parking lot. Despite his injuries, Jake uses a combination of moves taught by Roqua to knock Ryan out. Jake wins the respect of his peers, and Roqua returns to Brazil to reconcile with his father.
