Nichts als Ärger mit den Männern (2009)

Musician Katharina Schneider has just dropped out of her music studies. With odd jobs—such as conducting a choir at a senior citizens’ home or playing piano in a band—she can just about earn enough to get by. Her unsettled way of life is something her father, Hubert, cannot stand. He constantly makes it clear how little he thinks of it, leading to frequent arguments between them. This, along with her lack of prospects, seriously undermines the young woman’s self-confidence. Then, when Hubert suffers a heart attack, she has to take over his heavily indebted catering company. Katharina has only three weeks to improve its financial situation. To avoid insolvency proceedings, the creditor bank assigns the somewhat overzealous lawyer Ben Hallbauer to work alongside her. But rather than help her, he is supposed to pull the emergency brake and shut down the long-established business if necessary. This only fires up Katharina’s ambition. With plenty of improvisational flair and the help of her friends—including her gay roommate Jochen, his boyfriend Bruno, the secretary Christa, and Mrs. Wegener from the senior citizens’ home—she manages to land her first small contracts. Ben is impressed by her entrepreneurial spirit. He loosens up, and the first feelings begin to develop between him and Katharina. But he is also hiding a secret: he is involved with Betty, a lawyer’s daughter. Her father is a lawyer and, of all people, is defending the fiercest competitor of Katharina’s company. Sophie Linzer, a catering business owner and an arrogant society diva, has only one wish: to ruin Katharina.
