Nick Daley takes over as night guard at the American Museum of Natural History while his father, Larry, works in Japan. While Nick struggles with his confidence, the villainous pharaoh Kahmunrah escapes and steals the tablet that animates the museum's exhibits. Nick, along with several exhibits including Rexy, Attila, Jedediah, Octavius, and the new exhibit Joan of Arc, pursue Kahmunrah. They discover he is heading to the Museum of Natural Art to reach the Temple of Dendur. The group enters a painting leading to ancient Egypt, where they face Kahmunrah and the God of Chaos, Seth.
