Full plot (contains spoilers)
Some conscripts realize that, for a fee, they can replace the engine in one of the military’s new cars with an old, worn-out engine belonging to a relative and installed in his Volvo. An officer discovers the engine swap and demands a share of the payment in exchange for keeping quiet. This first, partially unsuccessful deal sets off an increasingly steady flow of stolen goods and under-the-table services from the regiment to the small town. As the services and goods multiply, an organization is needed to broker them. Since the regiment has eight companies, the group forms the Ninth Company.
