The story
Maddie Barker, a struggling Uber driver and bartender in Montauk, New York, faces financial ruin and the loss of her home. To save her property, she accepts a peculiar offer from a wealthy couple: she will be paid to date their socially inexperienced 19-year-old son, Percy, before he heads to college. The goal is to help him gain confidence and experience. However, the arrangement becomes complicated as Maddie and Percy begin to develop an unexpected bond while navigating the complexities of their different lives and the awkward reality of their transactional relationship.

Maddie Barker, a woman in Montauk, New York, is struggling to pay property taxes on her inherited home. She accepts a deal from a wealthy couple to date their son, Percy, in exchange for a car. Their first few dates involve mishaps, including a beach trip where they are harassed by teenagers and a moment where Percy develops an anxiety rash. As they spend time together, they become genuine friends and share personal secrets. The plot thickens when Percy's parents offer Maddie the car if she can convince him to go to Princeton. After a series of misunderstands and a tense dinner where the deal is revealed, Percy feels betrayed and crashes the car. After a period of separation, the two reconcile at a mixer. Following a final accident where Percy saves Maddie, they agree to remain friends. Maddie eventually moves to California, and the two remain in contact while she starts a new life.
