Two siblings working on a horse ranch encounter a mysterious and predatory entity in the sky.
The story
In Agua Dulce, California, the Haywood family operates a horse ranch for film productions. After a mysterious incident involving falling metallic objects, siblings Otis Jr. (OJ) and Emerald (Em) find themselves dealing with an unidentified flying object (UFO) that has been taking their horses. Seeking to turn the situation into an opportunity, the siblings decide to document and sell evidence of the UFO's existence. They recruit a local electronics store employee to set up surveillance, while attempting to navigate the dangers of a creature they suspect is not just a machine, but a living, predatory entity hiding in the local landscape.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After their father is killed by a falling object, siblings OJ and Em attempt to capture and document a UFO that has been abducting their horses. They believe the entity, which they name 'Jean Jacket,' is a predatory animal that only attacks those who look directly at it. They partner with a local entrepreneur, Ricky 'Jupe' Park, who tries to use the creature for a spectacle at his theme park, 'Jupiter's Claim.' During a live show, the creature appears and consumes the crowd. OJ realizes the creature's nature and devises a plan to record it using a hand-cranked camera to bypass its electronic interference. During the confrontation, several characters are consumed by the creature. In the climax, Em uses a large balloon to distract Jean Jacket, causing it to rupture and die after it consumes the balloon. The film ends with the siblings standing unharmed as reporters arrive to witness the aftermath.
