Full plot (contains spoilers)
The young Nora Helmer borrows money from the shady Krogstad to care for her seriously ill husband. To do so, she forges her father’s signature. When Torvald becomes director of a bank where Krogstad is now employed, he wants to dismiss Krogstad because of his past. Krogstad then blackmails Nora, threatening to expose her forgery. Nora tries to persuade her husband to change his mind, but he wants nothing to do with it. When her husband learns the truth from a letter from Krogstad, he wants to cast his wife out because he fears his career is now in danger. Torvald later receives a second letter from Krogstad, in which Krogstad tells him that he will not expose the forgery. This leads Torvald to forgive his wife. Nora, however, does not accept her husband’s apology. She leaves him because he has not understood her motives.
