The story
In 1960s Paris, Victor, a soldier discharged from the Foreign Legion, gets a job as a wrestler through his friend Simon. Billed as “the Belleville Butcher,” Victor is expected to fight Simon, known as “the Specter.” Their bouts are fixed and rehearsed to heighten the spectacle. Sensing Victor’s need for recognition, Simon proposes that they exchange roles for their first fight, reasoning that their masks will keep anyone from recognizing them. The proposed switch places their friendship and carefully staged wrestling identities at the center of the initial conflict.
