The story
Max and Lou hope to adopt a child, but the authorities make clear that marriage is necessary for them to have a real chance of adopting. Neither is particularly keen on getting married at city hall. After thinking it over, they decide to treat marriage as a formality and plan a small wedding attended only by the two of them and their two witnesses.

Max and Lou are a happy, fulfilled couple. To affirm their love, they seek to adopt a child. Unfortunately, the authorities make it clear that if they want a real chance of adopting, they need to get married. However, neither of them is particularly keen to get married at city hall. After thinking it over, they decide it’s only a formality: a small wedding, just the two of them and their two witnesses, and that’s that. But soon, family and friends invite themselves to the festivities, and the guest list grows from four to 300.
