When former mayor René de Kermanlec is found dead on Sillon Beach, the investigation turns toward murder. Éric and Gwenaële begin a clandestine parallel investigation to find Ronan and clear his name, as tensions between the Kermanlec and Delalande families resurface.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Ten years have passed since *Murder in Saint-Malo*. Éric Vautier was forced into retirement because he had investigated a warehouse fire a little too zealously, suspecting insurance fraud. The warehouse belonged to the Kermanlecs, an old family of prominent figures in Saint-Malo. The family is now represented by René de Kermanlec, the former mayor of Saint-Malo, and his two children: Erwan, the current mayor, and Loïc, who runs the family business. Éric Vautier has been replaced by Julie Vasseur, who gave him little support during his ordeal. Nicole Vautier, née Delalande, Éric Vautier’s wife, has seen her Alzheimer’s disease worsen and had to be placed in a specialized care facility. She no longer speaks. Her nephew, Ronan Delalande, has become a journalist. Gwenaële Garrec has left the police, traumatized by having nearly let her murderous brother escape. Her relationship with Ronan Delalande lasted several years. They had a child together, Maël. He celebrates his tenth birthday at the end of the episode with a cake that seems to be a nod to the ten-year anniversary of the *Murder in…* series. René de Kermanlec is found dead on Sillon Beach, bitten by an enormous dog, which appears to be an English mastiff. The investigation soon turns toward murder. This brings the watchdogs of Saint-Malo to mind. Ronan Delalande disappears on the day of the murder. Julie Vasseur’s investigation focuses largely on evidence against him. Éric Vautier and Gwenaële Garrec conduct a parallel, clandestine investigation to try to find him and clear his name, although Éric Vautier is beginning to have more and more doubts. Tensions between the Kermanlec and Delalande families, stretching back several centuries, rise to the surface. And the Kermanlec family seems much more shady than expected.
