The story
The drama tells the story of John Lennon's teenage years from 1955 to 1960. Separated from his mother, Julia Lennon, at age five, John is raised by his aunt and uncle, Mimi and George Smith. After his uncle's sudden death, John becomes curious about his mother and develops an obsession with rock and roll music. When he is suspended from school, Julia allows him to stay at her house secretly. However, the arrangement is discovered by Mimi, leading to a period of tension between John and his primary guardians as he seeks to balance his connections to both women.

John eventually forms a band named the Quarrymen, where he meets Paul McCartney and George Harrison. After a confrontation with Julia and Mimi regarding his father, Alf Lennon, John moves out to live on his own. Over time, the three women become friendly. Following Julia's fatal car accident, John reacts with anger toward his bandmates but eventually finds forgiveness. The film concludes with John traveling to Hamburg with his newly formed band, the Beatles, and a caption noting he phoned Mimi every week for the rest of his life.
