The story
A choir singer’s life changes when a gospel leader joins her village choir.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Hannah sings in a small church choir in the village of Ågerup with Grethe, Preben, Krüger, Lasse, and Kirsten. When the choir’s conductor leaves, Kirsten takes over the position, despite opposition from several of the others. After Hannah and Grethe experience a large, authentic gospel choir, Grethe wants to sing gospel too. As fate would have it, Moses Jackson, the gospel choir’s leader, ends up in the nearby hospital after an accident—a traffic accident for which Hannah is more or less responsible. Grethe takes Hannah to the hospital to apologize and persuade Moses to become the new conductor. Since he has to stay for a while anyway, he turns up for a rehearsal. Kirsten is offended and withdraws, while Moses gradually gets the choir up and running. Meanwhile, Hannah leads a sad life with Carsten, but the choir gradually brings her to life, and she slowly falls in love with Moses. One night, they come together in the church. Kirsten discovers them and causes Moses to leave, but Hannah follows him. The couple are reunited once more, but Moses has a family he has found the courage to return to, despite his fascination with Hannah. Hannah has to go home with the task of arranging the concert that never happened with Moses, and in doing so she must now pursue her youthful dream of becoming a singer. She puts on the concert as the leader of a choir that has by now grown large, and her life has taken a decisive turn.
