Full plot (contains spoilers)

Katja Weiser works as an accountant in Cologne and is in the middle of a divorce. But that is not her only problem: her 12-year-old daughter, Jessy (played by Jamie Bick), is spending more and more time on the internet. When Katja can no longer think of a way to deal with it, she disables her daughter’s internet access and takes away her smartphone. In its place, she gives Jessy a mobile phone without internet access. Shortly afterward, everything goes wrong: Katja’s bank account is suddenly completely overdrawn, and to make matters worse, she loses her job. But even worse, Jessy suddenly disappears. At a loss, Katja turns to the local police station, where she finds a capable contact in police officer Marc Redel, who is willing to help her. The investigation reveals that Katja has apparently fallen victim to fraud: her bank password was cracked, enabling online purchases in her name that she knew nothing about. So Katja has fallen victim to the very medium—the internet—from which she wanted to keep her daughter away. Jessy meets up with her online acquaintance, who had pretended in their chats to be a woman named Chrissy and had expressed understanding of her problems as a child of divorced parents. When it becomes clear that her chat partner is a man, Jessy is unsettled and says she wants to go home. He replies, “But you are home.” The film turns dramatic when Jessy realizes she has fallen into the hands of a psychopath who is holding her in his private quarters. He foils several of Jessy’s attempts to escape. The deranged criminal tells her that they have the same parents, meaning he is her brother, and says he is very glad to finally have her back with him as his sister. After he throws her violently onto his bed following yet another escape attempt, causing her physical pain, Jessy fully realizes how serious the situation she has gotten into is. Based on the research she has done in the meantime, Katja suspects her daughter is being held in the back rooms of a pharmacy. When she enters the shop, Jessy’s tormentor quickly puts on a white coat and greets her. After she buys headache pills, he sternly warns her never to enter his pharmacy again. Katja takes this warning as a clear indication that her daughter really is in the back rooms of the pharmacy, and knocks him down with a well-aimed kick to the groin before running back into the pharmacy. After finding her daughter in the pharmacy’s basement, Katja and Jessy try to escape, but Jessy’s tormentor catches them by surprise and a fight breaks out. In the meantime, the police arrive. When Jessy’s tormentor is on the verge of strangling her mother, police officer Marc kills him with a well-aimed shot in the back from his service weapon, after giving him a clear warning. The story ends with Jessy finding a friend her own age and Katja going to the cinema with police officer Marc.
