A drifting former oil-rig worker joins his friend’s struggling handyman business and sees stripping as a way to save it.
The story
After years working on an oil rig, Jorrit returns and asks his old friend Bas for a job at Bas’s struggling handyman business. When Jorrit notices the effect his muscles have on the women at the company, he proposes that the handymen try stripping instead of odd jobs. He persuades Thijs, Chico, and Chuck to join, and even Bas agrees to help organize the venture. With guidance and contacts from Sid, a former Chippendale, the group soon has more performances than it can manage. At the same time, Jorrit is living in one of Bas’s site cabins, where his nine-year-old son Gijs keeps turning up, forcing Jorrit to confront how uncertain he feels about fatherhood.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After working on an oil rig for years, Jorrit returns. He goes to see his old employer and good friend Bas. Bas runs a handyman business called Onze Jongens, and Jorrit hopes to find a job with him. Business is slow in construction, but Jorrit manages to talk his way onto a job anyway. There, he notices that the women at the company suddenly have no eyes for their work anymore; they only have eyes for him and for the way his muscles flex as he drills. This gives Jorrit an idea: what if they stripped instead of doing odd jobs? It could be the company’s salvation. Jorrit eventually persuades the other handymen—Thijs, Chico, and Chuck. Even Bas comes around, though, since he isn’t exactly God’s gift to women, he mainly keeps an eye on things from an organizational standpoint. Onze Jongens train with Sid, an old, somewhat washed-up American and former Chippendale. Thanks to Sid and his contacts, they soon have more “gigs” than they can handle. Their famous police routine is an outright hit in particular. From the moment Onze Jongens toss their police hats into the air, the women go wild. Meanwhile, Jorrit has moved into one of Bas’s site cabins. Jorrit’s young son, Gijs, finds him there and drops by at all hours. Jorrit doesn’t think he’s cut out to be a father, and the choices he makes for nine-year-old Gijs seem to prove it. While out one night, Jorrit meets Katja. She’s different from other girls: she knows what she wants and isn’t impressed by Jorrit’s charms. She decides to take him home, not the other way around. And the next morning, she immediately asks him to leave. Jorrit is pleasantly surprised to see her again on the football pitch. Katja turns out to be his son Gijs’s football coach. But that only makes things more complicated, because Katja has one dating rule for herself: she doesn’t get involved with fathers of children on her team. That’s not all, though—Jorrit has also been seduced into sleeping with Bas’s wife. When Bas and the other guys find out, Jorrit’s friendship with them is over for good. Jorrit falls back on what he has always been good at: leaving. When things get too hot for him, he takes off. This time, Jorrit goes with Sid to Las Vegas. He throws himself into Vegas’s tacky but cold world, where money can buy anything. Even Jorrit. But is this really what he wanted? A nice girl, some friends… they’re nowhere to be found. When a little boy asks Jorrit to play chess and immediately beats him, Jorrit realizes he can’t sink any lower. He returns to the Netherlands, this time to repair the damage he has caused and turn his life around. First of all, he wants to rebuild his relationship with Gijs. And he’s still happy to strip—but only for his Katja.
