Ostfriesenangst (2021)

Detective Ann Kathrin Klaasen is actually off duty and wants to celebrate her son’s birthday when a new case comes up. After a group of students goes on a walk across the mudflats, their teacher does not return. The investigation includes the students in the class, since they may have wanted to get rid of their unpopular teacher this way, with everyone in the class sticking together. But when the tide goes out again, investigators find the body of BKA officer Thomas Kohrhammer, sending the investigation in a new direction. Kohrhammer’s colleague Fädli accuses sex offender Gerd Eichinger of the crime, since Kohrhammer had been on his trail. The BKA wants to take over the case entirely, which Klaasen dislikes. She looks into the case involving Eichinger, which raises questions for her: the crimes took place several years ago, and the same BKA officer had always been the one investigating him. Moreover, three criminals had already been killed during investigations led by this officer. Klaasen discovers that Fädli is driven by deeply personal feelings of revenge. As children, she and her brother were abused by their father, who was never held legally accountable. Driven by this, the two of them took the law into their own hands. The students Sascha and Laura, who feel guilty about their teacher’s disappearance, hide out on Norderney. They wanted revenge on their teacher because he had sexually harassed Laura. When he got stuck in the mudflats, as they had hoped, they simply left him there alone. On the island, the two encounter Eichinger, who cannot pass up the chance to have two willing victims for new sex videos. At gunpoint, he forces them to perform in front of his camera. He does not realize that BKA officer Fädli is close on his heels. Although Klaasen arrives, she cannot prevent Eichinger from being shot by Fädli. Days later, the teacher’s body is washed ashore.
