At Kaltenbach, Ari’s bond with a horse offers a possible alternative to a children’s home.

The story

Mika and Ostwind are injured in Andalusia; Mika lies in a coma, and Ostwind is not eating because Mika is unwell. Fanny, interning at the youth welfare office, and her supervisor Britta take Ari from her eighth foster family, which no longer wants her. With a children’s home as the next prospect, Fanny hopes to place Ari at Kaltenbach instead. She persuades Britta to present the horse therapy center as a human therapy center with horses. There, Ari meets Ostwind and senses a bond with him as close as Mika’s.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Mika and Ostwind are injured in Andalusia. Mika is lying in a hospital in a coma and does not wake up because Ostwind is unwell. Ostwind has suffered only a few minor injuries, but is not eating because Mika is unwell. Fanny is doing an internship at the youth welfare office. Along with her supervisor, Britta, she takes Ari, a difficult-to-manage girl, away from the eighth foster family, which no longer wants her. Ari is now supposed to go to a children's home. Fanny finds this prospect so awful that she wants to place Ari at Kaltenbach, and sells Britta on the idea of presenting the horse therapy center as a human therapy center with horses. At Kaltenbach, Ari also meets Ostwind and senses a bond with him as close as Mika's. Eventually, Mr. Kaan teaches Ari archery and riding, as well as how to combine the two. This helps Ari control her anger and focus better. She also uses these skills to help Ostwind and, in turn, Mika. Ari and Mika have visions of one another. Maria Kaltenbach has blood pressure problems and is prescribed medication. The new employee, Isabell Herburg, replaces the medication with placebos, and Maria suffers a heart attack some time later. After a stay in the hospital, Maria goes into rehabilitation. She also transfers her stud farm to Isabell and plans to move into a retirement home. Isabell is working with Thordur Thorvaldson, who is supposedly a horse whisperer. In reality, he cures horses by breaking them. Thordur turns his attention to Ostwind and succeeds in breaking him. Ostwind's greatest fear is fire, so Thordur traps the horse inside a ring of fire. When Ari finds out, she tries to free Ostwind from Thordur's clutches. Because of her close bond with Ostwind, she is able to take away his fear, and he jumps over the fire to freedom. Ari also uncovers Isabell's schemes and rides to see Maria in rehabilitation to tell her the truth. Ari and Maria return to Kaltenbach with the police, where Isabell is in the process of throwing Tinka, Fanny, Sam, and Ari off the property. Isabell and Thordur are arrested, and Maria takes over her stud farm again. Mika wakes from the coma and returns to Kaltenbach. Britta learns the truth about Kaltenbach and has Ari picked up so that she can take her to the children's home after all. On the way there, they stop by Ostwind once more so Ari can say goodbye. While Ari is saying goodbye, Fanny gets a call from Britta: Ari is allowed to stay at Kaltenbach after all, because Maria has taken her in as a foster child. Ari is then taken back to Kaltenbach. At the open day held shortly afterward, Ari is allowed to show off her riding skills.
