A grieving widow discovers a series of posthumous messages from her late husband designed to help her move forward with her life.

The story

Holly and her Irish husband Gerry live in Manhattan and are deeply in love. When Gerry dies of a brain tumor after ten years together, grief causes Holly to withdraw from her family and friends. On Holly's birthday, a cake is delivered along with a cassette that holds a recording from Gerry—the first of several meaningful messages he had arranged to have delivered to her after his death. These messages, which all end with "P.S. I Love You," are intended to encourage her to continue living. The story follows Holly as she navigates her grief while receiving these unexpected communications and attempting to find a way forward in her new reality.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After her husband Gerry dies of a brain tumor, Holly becomes isolated in her grief. However, she begins receiving a series of pre-recorded messages from him, each ending with "P.S. I Love You." These messages lead her to travel to his childhood home in the Irish countryside with her two best friends, Denise and Sharon. In Ireland, she meets William, a singer who reminds her of Gerry. After a series of events, including a shared night with William and a realization of his past connection to Gerry, Holly begins to find her footing. She discovers a passion for designing shoes and begins to reconnect with her friends. She also encounters her old friend Daniel, who confesses his feelings for her. Finally, she receives a final letter from Gerry, delivered by her mother, which encourages her to embrace new love. The film concludes with Holly finding a sense of peace and moving forward, eventually taking her mother to Ireland where they encounter William and his father once more.
