The story

A young woman tries to repair the damage after she fears she has sent the wrong love letter to one of her two lovers.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Young Monika is involved with two different men. She decides to leave one of them and write a love letter to the other instead. Immediately after dropping the envelopes into the pneumatic mail system, she becomes convinced that she has mixed up the two letters. She rushes to Ivan, an avant-garde sculptor who works with metal in Montparnasse, but he throws her out without letting her explain. Determined to save the situation, she goes to Levallois-Perret to see Roger, who has a mechanical workshop, and waits for him in his bed so she can ask his forgiveness for sending the wrong letter. But he throws her out too: in fact, the envelopes were not mixed up; she gave herself away by revealing to each man that the other existed.
