Full plot (contains spoilers)
In present-day Nantes, Solange Maserati is a bright but highly sensitive, lonely and introverted 13-year-old schoolgirl. She lives with her brother Romain, a 21-year-old student, and her parents: Antoine (Philippe Katerine), who runs a musical-instrument repair shop, and Aurélia (Léa Drucker), a stage actress. This family, from a highly cultured background and with no particular problems, ought to be a protective and enriching cocoon for Solange, but a pervasive unease hangs over the relationships between its members. Their interactions seem artificial, and communication is absent. Solange notices several clues that make her suspect things are no longer going well in her parents’ marriage, just after they have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. She wants explanations, but everyone lies to her. Her brother chooses to flee the increasingly stifling atmosphere and goes to Spain to continue his studies. Deeply troubled, Solange starts falling behind at school, and when she learns that the family home is being put up for sale without anyone having told her, she loses her footing and drifts into the unknown.
