The story
The Barden Bellas, an all-female a cappella group, have been national champions for three consecutive years. However, a public scandal involving a member's wardrobe malfunction leads to their suspension from the ICCAs. To be reinstated, the group must win the A Cappella World Championship. While preparing for the competition, they discover that a formidable German powerhouse group, Das Sound Machine, has replaced them on their tour and is the favorite to win. Amidst the pressure of the competition and the addition of a new freshman member, the Bellas must find their harmony and overcome internal tensions to face their rivals on the world stage.

After a public scandal involving Fat Amy's wardrobe leads to their suspension, the Barden Bellas are told they can only be reinstated if they win the A Cappella World Championship. They face off against the German powerhouse Das Sound Machine (DSM). During the journey, they encounter the Treblemakers and the Tone Hangers. A new freshman, Emily Junk, joins the group. The Bellas face several setbacks, including a pyrotechnics accident and a loss to DSM in a preliminary round where Emily's original song was ruled illegal. The group goes on a retreat to rediscover their roots, where Beca's secret internship at a recording studio is revealed, leading to a confrontation with Chloe over the group's future. They eventually reconcile and find harmony. At the World Finals in Copenhagen, the Bellas perform a stripped-down set featuring past members. They win the championship, and the senior members hold a final initiation ceremony for Emily before graduating.
