An FBI agent candidate goes undercover to track down a group of extreme athletes who are completing a series of dangerous ordeals to honor the forces of nature.
The story
Seven years after his friend's death during an extreme motorbike jump, FBI agent candidate Johnny Utah investigates a series of high-profile heists. He discovers the crimes are linked to a group of extreme athletes attempting the 'Ozaki 8,' a list of eight dangerous ordeals meant to honor nature. After identifying their next target—a rare sea wave phenomenon in France—Utah goes undercover as a field agent. He joins the group, eventually being accepted into their inner circle. However, as he navigates their dangerous lifestyle and the escalating risks of their missions, he must balance his loyalty to his mission with his growing connection to the group.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Johnny Utah, an FBI agent candidate, tracks a group of extreme athletes who are completing the 'Ozaki 8'—eight dangerous ordeals honoring nature. After a heist in Mexico, Utah goes undercover in France to intercept them during a surfing ordeal. He is rescued by the group's leader, Bodhi, and joins them. They complete several ordeals, including wingsuit flying in the Alps and snowboarding down a mountain, during which Utah becomes depressed after a teammate's death. Bodhi reveals his motivation: completing Ozaki's unfinished legacy. The group eventually robs an Italian bank, leading to a shootout where Utah kills a teammate, only to realize it was his love interest, Samsara. Utah then tracks them to a free solo climbing ordeal in Venezuela, where another teammate dies. Bodhi is forced to redo an ordeal after saving Utah. Seventeen months later, Utah finds Bodhi in the Pacific. He allows Bodhi to attempt a final giant wave, knowing Bodhi won't return. The wave kills Bodhi, and Utah begins his own ordeals, his status as an FBI agent left uncertain.
