The story
Village policeman Simon Polt attends an ice-wine harvest at his friend Karl Fürnkranz’s vineyard, where the body of Ferdinand Lutzer, a casual laborer, is discovered in the grape press. Polt begins investigating the death, even as he gets a new superior with whom he does not get along. His inquiries lead him to question Karl’s son, Martin, and to learn about a painful incident involving Martin’s sister, Monika. Polt tracks Monika down in Znaim, where she lives as the wife of brothel owner Claus Scheidt, as he tries to understand Lutzer’s connections and what happened at the vineyard.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
When village policeman Simon Polt attends an ice-wine harvest at his friend Karl Fürnkranz’s vineyard, the body of Ferdinand Lutzer, a casual laborer and womanizer, is discovered in the grape press. Polt begins investigating and, in the meantime, gets a new superior with whom he does not get along. He questions Martin Fürnkranz, his friend’s son, and learns from him that Lutzer raped his sister, Monika. Polt tracks Monika down in Znaim, where she lives as the wife of brothel owner Claus Scheidt. After Karl Fürnkranz makes a false confession, Martin Fürnkranz admits that he was responsible for Lutzer’s death. Lutzer had worked for Scheidt and bragged about raping Monika. In response, Martin beat him up and shoved him into the press basket. But Simon Polt conceals the confession and quits the police force.
