Full plot (contains spoilers)
This film evokes Bohumil Hrabal’s childhood memories in the town of Nymburk, where the brewery plays an important role. The film’s main characters, Uncle Pepin and Maryška, are in fact real members of Hrabal’s family: Maryška is said to have been his mother, and Uncle Pepin his actual uncle. He was supposed to stay in town for only two weeks, but remained there for forty years.
