A group of teenagers must harness newfound powers to protect Earth from an ancient, reawakened threat.
The story
In the town of Angel Grove, a group of teenagers—including high school football star Jason Scott, the neurodivergent Billy Cranston, and cheerleader Kimberly Hart—find themselves in a predicament after a prank goes wrong. While in a nearby gold mine, they discover a collection of Power Coins that grant them superhuman abilities. As they struggle to master these new powers, they learn of an ancient threat: Rita Repulsa, a former warrior who has awakened to claim the Zeo Crystal. With less than two weeks before she can use the Crystal's power to dominate the universe, the teens must train and unite to defend the world.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Millions of years ago, the Power Rangers protected the Zeo Crystal from Rita Repulsa. After she betrayed them, the Red Ranger, Zordon, hid the Power Coins and initiated a strike that sealed Rita away. In the modern day, five teenagers in Angel Grove—Jason, Billy, Kimberly, Trini, and Zack—each find a Power Coin in a gold mine and gain superhuman abilities. They are contacted by Zordon's consciousness and Alpha 5, who warn them that Rita has awakened and seeks the Zeo Crystal. The teens spend a week training to 'morph' and pilot Zords, massive dinosaur-like vehicles. After a series of failures and a tragic confrontation where Rita kills Billy, the team resolves to fight together, unlocking the Morphing Grid and reviving Billy. In a final battle, the Rangers' Zords combine into the Megazord to defeat Rita's creation, Goldar. They successfully repel Rita's initial assault, and the teenagers return to their lives as heroes. A mid-credits scene reveals that a new student, Tommy Oliver, will be joining their class.
