Full plot (contains spoilers)

In late 18th-century England, the five Bennet sisters live at Longbourn. Mrs. Bennet is thrilled by the arrival of the wealthy Bingley and his friend, the stoic Mr. Darcy. While Jane is quickly taken with Bingley, Elizabeth finds herself repelled by Darcy's perceived arrogance. The plot thickens as the pompous Mr. Collins arrives to claim the family estate, and the charming soldier George Wickham enters the scene, winning Elizabeth's sympathy with lies about Darcy. After rejecting Collins' proposal, Elizabeth's world is shaken when she receives a letter from Darcy confessing his love and revealing Wickham's true character. Following a period of separation and the scandalous elopement of Lydia with Wickham—which Darcy secretly resolves—Elizabeth visits the grand estate of Pemberley. There, she sees a transformed, humble Darcy. After a final confrontation with Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Elizabeth and Darcy reconcile their feelings and accept each other's love, culminating in a happy union.
