After a little unicorn foal escapes from her magical dream, Princess Lillifee and her friends set out to take her back to the cold land beyond the mountains.

The story

Princess Lillifee dreams of a frozen world and encounters the unicorn Rosalie, who keeps running away from her. Later, the unicorns ask Lillifee to look after Lucy, and a little foal suddenly appears from her blanket, seemingly escaped from the magical dream. While the people of Rosarien welcome Lucy, Lillifee wonders why Rosalie sent her daughter. After hearing the unicorns’ voices again and realizing they must be in great danger, Lillifee decides to take Lucy back. Pupsi and Iwan join them, and the constellation of the Unicorn guides the group toward Bluetopia, a cold, snowy land beyond the mountains.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Princess Lillifee has a strange dream: The whole world is frozen, and the unicorn Rosalie, whom she meets in the dream, keeps running away even though Lillifee calls to her. The pig Pupsi and the hedgehog Iwan, whom she tells about it, are sure it must mean something. At first, though, Lillifee forgets her worries, because the mice Cindy and Clara have baked an apple cake. That night, Lillifee’s dream continues: The unicorns ask Lillifee for help and call to her to take good care of Lucy. Then something unexpected happens: A little unicorn suddenly crawls out of the blanket—it has escaped from the magical dream. The people of Rosarien are delighted by Lucy’s arrival: They play with the little unicorn foal and feed her as if she were a baby doll. Only Pupsi is not pleased, especially when Lucy grabs the raspberries he has gathered and eats the last piece of cake, too. And Lillifee keeps wondering why Rosalie sent her daughter to her. The frog Carlos, whom Lillifee asks, doesn’t know either, but he tells her that unicorns have a magic horn: If you touch it, you can make a wish, and it will come true. Pupsi tries it right away—but baby unicorns don’t yet understand wishes properly. Pupsi suddenly finds himself, dressed in a bathing suit, on top of a high diving board. He loses his balance and lands headfirst in the pond—that wasn’t what he wished for. In Princess Lillifee’s enormous dressing room, Pupsi is given a new outfit. Lucy wants to try on shoes, too, and makes a mess of everything; all of Lillifee’s shoes go flying, but Lillifee uses magic to put everything back in order. That night, Lillifee hears the unicorns’ voices once more and realizes they must be in great danger. She decides to take Lucy back. Pupsi and Iwan come along, and the four of them set off. The constellation of the Unicorn shows them the way to Bluetopia, the cold, snowy land beyond the mountains. But it is so cold there that Pupsi is not the only one shivering: Lillifee’s wings freeze over, too, and they crash, landing in the snow on top of a mountain. The friends set off on foot for the valley. Lillifee wants to conjure up warm clothes for them, but her magical powers seem to be frozen, too. An eagle watches them and reports their arrival to the castle of Prince Eis, the ruler of Bluetopia. In his throne room stand countless frozen animals and people, like trophies, including his brother, the Summer Prince Tau. He tells his helper Crunch, an elf bound to him by an oath, about his plan: He intends to freeze Lucy, the unicorn, too! Meanwhile, Pupsi and Iwan, who have gone on ahead, come across a frozen, deserted village. Pupsi looks for something to eat but finds only a mousetrap. Lucy and Lillifee meet the elf boy Fabian, who warns them to go back to Rosarien. Just then, Prince Eis arrives with Crunch on a sled pulled by penguins. He tries to lure them to his palace by promising them a delicious meal. But Lucy instinctively feels great fear of the Winter Prince, so Lillifee and the others don’t trust him. Prince Eis immediately shows his true colors: He threatens to freeze them, and the penguins seize Pupsi. But Pupsi manages to escape, and the four flee on their toboggan. Eis and the penguins chase after them on skis. Suddenly, their pursuers fall behind, but the companions’ joy at getting away is short-lived: Their sled plunges into a deep ravine! Just in time, Pupsi touches Lucy’s horn and wishes they could land on something soft. At once, they float down to the ground inside a giant marshmallow. In the evening, around a campfire where they have dried off after their involuntary dip in the lake, Pupsi wishes Lucy would give him more to eat. A huge piece of marshmallow drifts down, and so much is left even after the meal that it serves as a cozy, if somewhat sticky, blanket for the night. In the morning, Princess Lillifee is just getting a fire started when Lucy suddenly disappears—the curious foal wanders through the frozen forest, and the three of them go looking for her. From a distance, they hear Lucy scream: Eis has caught her! They follow the footprints in the snow until Prince Eis’s palace appears before them, with a frozen village at its foot—the villagers are trapped beneath the layer of ice. Prince Eis comes after them on his sled. Lillifee and Iwan fall into a hole in the snow, Pupsi is captured, and Crunch has to freeze him. In an ice cave beneath the village, they meet the elf boy Fabian again. He tells them that Eis has frozen Lucy’s parents in the castle above. Fabian’s elderly mother, who was once the nanny to Eis and Tau, tells them that Eis froze his brother out of jealousy: No one liked winter, while everyone loved summer. Only the unicorns’ magic can melt the ice, so Lucy is the only hope of ever bringing summer back to Bluetopia. Fortunately, Lucy is safe—Crunch found her and brought her to them. Lillifee hopes that when Lucy sees her frozen parents, she will know what to do. Unnoticed by Eis, they sneak into the throne room. Lucy’s horn begins to glow magically, but at that very moment Eis grabs her. He orders Crunch to freeze Lucy, but Crunch refuses. So the Winter Prince grabs Lucy’s horn and wishes for Crunch’s ice magic; however, he cannot control the spell and freezes himself. But the people of Bluetopia are still frozen. Now Princess Lillifee must make a wish so that Lucy can break the spell. Will she manage to free the land from the curse?
