The story
Set in the late 21st century, the film centers on the crew of the spaceship Prometheus as it follows a star map discovered among the artifacts of several ancient Earth cultures. Seeking the origins of humanity, the crew travels to a distant moon, LV-223. Upon arrival, they discover a mysterious structure and a biological threat that poses a risk of human extinction. The mission, funded by the elderly CEO of the Weyland Corporation, becomes a desperate search for the truth behind humanity's creators, known as the 'Engineers.'

In 2089, archaeologists Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway find a star map in Scotland, which they believe is a message from the 'Engineers.' They join a mission aboard the Prometheus, accompanied by an android named David and a corporate overseer, Meredith Vickers. Upon landing on LV-223, the crew discovers a massive structure containing the remains of the Engineers and a deadly biological weapon. As the crew is attacked by a snake-like creature, David secretly investigates the technology and the Engineer's biology. A mutated crew member, Fifield, becomes a threat to the ship. Meanwhile, Shaw discovers she is pregnant with a mutated offspring. The plot culminates in a confrontation where the crew must decide whether to allow the Engineers to reach Earth. They ultimately sacrifice themselves to stop the Engineer's spacecraft from reaching Earth. Shaw survives in a lifeboat with her alien offspring, eventually launching a new ship to find the Engineers' home world.
