Full plot (contains spoilers)
After her husband is murdered by the 'Satanic Slasher,' Kansas Highway Patrol officer Jane Archer tracks the killer across the Midwest. The Slasher, later identified as Richard Joshua Reeves, is a murderous Satanic preacher who has been active since the West Coast. During her pursuit, Jane discovers she is pregnant. The Slasher's path takes him through a pharmacy, a rural road, and a mansion run by Mr. Pendleton. His ultimate goal is to 'open the gates of Hell' by detonating a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania. Jane eventually confronts him in the control room, where she manages to shoot and incapacitate him. The film ends with the Slasher being taken to a prison in Death Valley, where his spree originally began.
