The story
In Los Angeles, Barry Egan is a bachelor who owns a company that markets themed toilet plungers and other novelty items. He has seven overbearing sisters who regularly ridicule and emotionally abuse him, and he leads a lonely life punctuated by fits of rage and social anxiety. One day, Barry witnesses an inexplicable car accident, picks up an abandoned harmonium from the street, and meets Lena Leonard, a co-worker of one of his sisters. Lena had orchestrated the meeting after seeing him in Elizabeth's family picture at work. The story follows Barry as he navigates his internal turmoil while attempting to build a budding relationship with Lena.

In Los Angeles, Barry Egan, a man with social anxiety and a history of outbursts, finds himself in a budding romance with Lena Leonard. After a tense family gathering where his sisters mock him, Barry seeks a therapist and begins a plan to collect frequent-flyer miles through a promotion. When Lena goes on a business trip to Hawaii, Barry follows her, and the two share a period of intimacy. However, a confrontation with a group of men—who are actually henchmen for a phone sex operator—leads to a physical altercation. Barry eventually travels to Utah to confront the operator, a man named Dean, and settles the dispute. Upon returning, Barry reconciles with Lena, explaining the incident and pledging his loyalty to her, leading to a shared moment of resolution.
