A countess brings Rasputin to the tsar’s court, where he faces competing demands of healing, indulgence, and intrigue.
The story
When the Russian tsar’s son falls ill, the court places its hopes in Rasputin, a miracle healer then indulging his appetites in Siberia. Countess Golovina is tasked with bringing him to Saint Petersburg and succeeds with help from her maid. At the tsar’s court, Rasputin attempts to heal the sick boy while seeking distraction in lavish orgies and navigating plots against him. The account establishes these competing pressures but does not describe what becomes of the child, the conspiracies, or Rasputin.
