A theatrical compilation of Orion adventures, linked by news interludes that sometimes foreshadow the plot.
The story
The theatrical film assembles seven episodes from the television series, drawing particularly on “Attack from Space,” “Planet Off Course” and “Invasion,” with excerpts from other episodes also included. Between the adventure material, announcer Helma Krap presents the “Sternenschau,” reading reports that sometimes foreshadow events. This is a compilation rather than a single newly described storyline; the article does not provide details of the individual adventures’ plots.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The theatrical film, intended to build on the success of the television series, is a compilation of seven of its episodes. The series was rerun several times, mainly on ARD’s regional channels; Raumpatrouille was also occasionally broadcast on commercial television. In the theatrical film, the “Sternenschau,” presented by announcer Helma Krap, played by Elke Heidenreich, was inserted as interludes. Krap reads out reports that sometimes foreshadow the plot. The film draws on three of the seven Orion adventures: “Attack from Space,” “Planet Off Course” and “Invasion”; excerpts from other episodes were also added. Peter Thomas, composer of the original title music, partly rearranged his compositions for the film. The intro, spoken by Claus Biederstaedt in the series, is spoken here by Ben Becker. There are some inconsistencies in the actors’ costumes, since consecutive scenes in the film do not come from the same original sequence. The film’s actual title is the same as the series: Raumpatrouille – Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes Orion. The advertised title, Raumpatrouille Orion – Rücksturz ins Kino, appears only in smaller lettering during the end credits.
