A grieving mother travels through parallel universes to hunt down the murderer of her daughter.
The story
After her daughter Anna is murdered by a restaurant cook named Neville, Irene Kelly begins an obsessive quest for vengeance. Using a universe-hopping machine, she travels through various parallel universes to track down and kill Neville's other selves. During one of these journeys, she encounters a teenage runaway named Mia, whom Neville also intends to kill. Irene saves Mia's life, but the two find themselves forced into an uneasy alliance as they navigate different realities to stop the murderer once and for all.

Irene Kelly's daughter Anna is murdered by a restaurant cook named Neville. Irene uses a universe-hopping machine to travel through parallel universes to kill Neville's variants. In one universe, she saves a runaway teen, Mia, from Neville. After a brief conflict over a stolen gun, the two form a truce. During a gunfight at a gas station, Irene shoots Neville and they hop to a new universe where the clerk lives. However, the hop destroys the fuel core. Irene tracks down smugglers to get a replacement part, but they try to take Mia as a hostage. Irene and Mia escape, killing one smuggler and taking the fuel core. Irene reveals she is the only version of herself who didn't commit suicide after Anna's death. In a new universe, Irene finds that Neville murdered the local Mia, causing a rift with her companion. Mia eventually forces Irene to a universe where Neville was imprisoned 15 years prior and Anna is still alive. Irene visits her happy self and Anna before saying goodbye. Meanwhile, Mia is knocked out by Neville and taken to his hideout. After he throws her into a lake, Irene arrives and shoots him. Neville captures Irene in a bear trap and throws her into the lake, but Mia frees herself and kills Neville. The two return to a deceased Irene's home, where Irene sets the machine on fire and they watch it burn together.
