The story

Rinaldo Rinaldini, an 18th-century bandit chief, has been transported to the present day. A gentleman crook and charmer, he wears a black eye mask and dresses in a tailcoat, top hat, and cape. He breaks into safes and through entrance doors, while the film follows his jewel heists and chivalry. In chase scenes, he displays agility and daring. The Marchese Salantieri is described as Rinaldo’s mirror image; the source does not specify that the two meet.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Rinaldo Rinaldini, the 18th-century bandit chief, has been transported to the present day. He is every inch a gentleman crook, a charmer with a black eye mask and always elegantly dressed in a tailcoat, top hat, and cape—a man who breaks into safes and through entrance doors just as readily as he wins the hearts of the ladies. The film tells of his jewel heists as well as his chivalry, and in the chase scenes he displays an agility and breathtaking daring strongly reminiscent of Harry Piel. In the Marchese Salantieri, Rinaldo Rinaldini has, so to speak, his mirror image. And of course, the king of bandits can also, along the way, win the heart of the beauty—here given the sonorous name Linda de Candido.
