Risiken und Nebenwirkungen (2021)

Kathrin, a Pilates instructor, is diagnosed with kidney disease during a routine checkup and needs a donor kidney. Her husband Arnold is a busy architect in the middle of a major project. He would be a suitable donor, but he is afraid to donate one of his kidneys to her. He faces the dilemma of either donating a kidney and potentially risking his own health, or putting his marriage at risk if he refuses. Götz is a friend of the couple and would be willing to undergo the procedure without hesitation, much to the displeasure of his wife, Diana, a pharmacist. The situation puts both marriages and the friendship between the four of them to the test. Internist Dr. Adler tells Kathrin that her test results were mixed up. Kathrin then tells her husband that her results were mixed up with Arnold’s, and that he therefore needs a new kidney. Götz still stands by his offer to donate a kidney. Kathrin also agrees to donate a kidney to her husband. Arnold is ashamed because he himself hesitated for so long when it came to donating to her. Kathrin eventually tells her husband that her own test results were indeed mixed up, but not with his, and that he is therefore healthy and does not actually need a new kidney; she had only wanted to test his reaction. After also discovering that Arnold is having an affair with a Ukrainian painter, she separates from her husband.
