A young Hamburg game designer falls for a single mother twenty years his senior, just as complications mount in both their families and his career.

The story

Twenty-six-year-old Robert Zimmermann works as a game designer at a trendy but chaotic studio in Hamburg, shares a flat, and is dating his colleague Lorna. When a ketchup mishap at a snack stand brings him together with Monika, a single mother twenty years his senior who works at a dry cleaner’s, Robert falls for her at first sight and sets out to win her heart. The age and cultural gap—and resistance from Monika’s teenage son—complicate his pursuit. At the same time, Robert faces upheaval in his family and pressure at work, where his company is preparing to present a first-person shooter to an important Chinese client.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Twenty-six-year-old Robert Zimmermann works as a game designer at a trendy but chaotic game studio in Hamburg. He lives in a shared flat and is dating his colleague Lorna. He thinks he has his life under control until one day a colleague accidentally splashes ketchup on him at a snack stand, and he meets Monika, a single mother twenty years his senior who works at the dry cleaner’s. For him, it is love at first sight, and he is determined to win her heart. But that proves difficult—not least because of the age and cultural gap, as well as resistance from Monika’s teenage son. Meanwhile, things are also falling apart in Robert’s family: his father is going through a crisis and leaves his mother for a younger woman, while his lesbian sister is pregnant, much to the displeasure of her life partner. To top it all off, a film about Konrad Adenauer is being shot at the family home. Robert’s company is also about to present a first-person shooter to an important Chinese client, and Robert still has to make a major change to it. After some back and forth, the family pulls together, and in the end Robert and Monika find their way to each other too.
