The story

Fifteen-year-old Julia is the daughter of a piano teacher and conductor and a classical pianist, and her parents want her to attend the prestigious Amadeus music boarding school. During a six-week preparatory course for its entrance exam, she hears Nick, an electrician at the school, rehearsing with his band, Rock it, and falls for him. Julia discovers that she prefers rock to the classical music she has been playing for her parents. When the band’s keyboardist leaves, Julia’s friend Francesca helps her disguise herself as Toni and take the vacant spot. As Julia and Nick grow closer through music, her secret identity and her parents’ expectations put her aspirations at odds.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Fifteen-year-old Julia, who comes from St. Tönis near Viersen, is the daughter of a piano teacher and conductor and a classical pianist. Because her parents want Julia to attend the prestigious private music boarding school “Amadeus,” she takes part in a six-week preparatory course for the entrance exam. Fifteen-year-old Nick works at the boarding school as an electrician. He is the lead singer and guitarist in the band “Rock it.” Julia listens to the band rehearse and falls in love with Nick. In the process, she realizes that she likes rock music much more than classical music, which she plays because of her parents. Soon, keyboardist Marc leaves “Rock it,” and Julia sees her chance. Her friend Francesca helps Julia disguise herself and get the vacant spot as keyboardist under the new name Toni. During a band rehearsal, Toni and Nick write a song together that means a great deal to both of them. But the devious, career-obsessed Betty notices that Julia, her partner, is not focused during rehearsals and exposes her disguise. Julia has to decide whether to pursue a career as a professional pianist or follow her dream. Nick has left her after finding out that she is going to Amadeus. At the big audition, Francesca has the hiccups and cannot perform at first. With Julia’s help, she manages to do so after all, and everyone is delighted. Julia finds out that Betty exposed her and that Betty is to blame for everything. When she is supposed to perform onstage with Betty, she stops after a few bars and then sings the song she wrote with Nick. He comes onstage and sings it with her. The judges think the song is very beautiful, and at the end Nick and Julia kiss. A new career for Rock-it at Amadeus now begins.
