Full plot (contains spoilers)

Kate has moved from the city to the countryside with her teenage son, Pete, to live with Dan, who is 30 years older than she is. But Kate soon realizes that country life simply isn’t for her, and a heated argument erupts, eventually leading to the couple’s separation. Pete makes it clear to his mother that he wants to stay with his stepfather; he has grown too fond of him over time. Meanwhile, Kate moves into a small apartment in town, where she takes over the pub for her pregnant friend Jill. At the pub, she meets a young surfer, Caine Martin, who takes her surfing and patiently explains each step to her as a beginner. Dan also makes a new acquaintance, gallery owner Helen Green, when his car breaks down. One night at the disco, Kate runs into her son Pete and tells him that from now on he has to live with her. She won’t tolerate this kind of behavior, and his stepfather Dan has also given his approval. Kate is growing increasingly fond of Caine, but when an outing on the stormy sea puts both her and Caine in mortal danger, Dan comes to their rescue. Kate and Dan reconcile and become a couple again.
