A fishing vessel lost at sea for thirty years mysteriously reappears in a village, transporting its new crew back in time.

The story

In a Cornish fishing village suffering from economic decline, the mysterious reappearance of the 'Rose of Nevada'—a vessel lost at sea thirty years prior—shocks the community. Former owner Mike recruits a crew consisting of Nick, a struggling father, and Liam, an itinerant worker, led by a grizzled skipper. Before departing, Nick is warned by a grieving neighbor about the boat's dark history. However, upon returning from their first trip, the men discover they have been transported back thirty years into the past, where they are mistaken for locals who disappeared or died decades earlier.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In a declining Cornish village, the reappearance of the 'Rose of Nevada' leads Mike to hire Nick, Liam, and skipper Murgey. After a trip, they find themselves 30 years in the past. Liam is mistaken for Alan, an absentee father, and begins to settle into the role, even romancing Alan's wife, Tina, and becoming a father to Jess. Nick, however, is mistaken for Luke, the son of Mrs. Richards, who committed suicide out of guilt over the original boat's loss. Nick becomes obsessed with returning to his own time, attempting to flee the village or communicate with his wife, Emily, but is plagued by visions and nightmares. He eventually realizes the boat is the town's only economic lifeline. After a fight with Liam, Nick contemplates suicide at a cliff but chooses to return to the Richards' home to live as their son. He eventually returns to the boat for work, where he has a final hallucinatory vision of his family before being helped back onto the vessel by Mike.
