A vacation in Hong Kong turns into a high-stakes international investigation for a pair of mismatched police partners.
The story
LAPD Detective James Carter and Hong Kong Police Force Chief Inspector Lee travel to Hong Kong for a vacation. Their trip is interrupted when a bomb at the US Consulate General kills two undercover agents. Lee is assigned to the case and discovers a connection to a Triad crime lord, Ricky Tan. The duo must navigate the complexities of a joint investigation involving the U.S. Secret Service and the Hong Kong Police Force while dealing with the personal stakes of the case and the dangers posed by the Triads.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
While in Hong Kong, Lee and Carter are forced into a brawl with Ricky Tan's bodyguards, leading to a chase where they are forced to flee while naked. After a series of complications involving the U.S. Secret Service and the loss of their initial leads, they travel to Los Angeles. There, they team up with an undercover agent, Isabella Molina, to investigate a billionaire, Steven Reign, who is laundering $100 million in counterfeit 'superdollars' through his Red Dragon Casino in Las Vegas. The investigation leads them to a confrontation with the Triad assassin Hu Li. In the climax at the casino, Lee and Carter face off against Ricky Tan. Lee eventually kills Ricky, avenging his father's death, while Carter defeats Hu Li. The film concludes with the pair heading to New York City to celebrate their success.
