Full plot (contains spoilers)
The director’s son, Karl-Bertil Jonsson, dreams of doing a good deed and helping the poor, like his idol Robin Hood. At his part-time job at the post office, he uses his father’s tax records to pick out packages addressed to executives, factory owners, and others who earn more than 50,000 kronor a year. He puts their packages in a special sack, which he then takes home. Dressed in an oversized Santa suit, Karl-Bertil gives all the packages he has stolen to the poor in the slums. His father, Tyko Jonsson, realizes that he has accidentally donated money to a poor children’s home all year when he receives a letter telling him he has been awarded a medal for charity. Vera lives at the children’s home; her mother sent her there to escape the war, along with her little sister, Esther. Esther is at risk of being adopted, and the handover is to take place at the gala where Tyko Jonsson is to receive his medal. At the last moment, the girls’ mother arrives and takes care of them. Tyko Jonsson finds out that Karl-Bertil gave away the packages. He forces Karl-Bertil to go with him to the people who were supposed to receive them and apologize. Unexpectedly, they are grateful and praise Karl-Bertil for his good deeds.
