A wealthy young man flees to a biker commune, where a staged kidnapping draws him into a romance built on deception.
The story
Michi escapes his extremely wealthy, smug family and heads to a biker commune in the countryside near Munich. Once the bikers learn of his background, their leader Hasi orchestrates a scheme: Alice is tasked with winning Michi’s confidence while the group stages his kidnapping and demands ransom from his parents. Michi and Alice spend time together, fall in love, and try to find work and lodging as an unmarried couple. Their experiences include a chaotic supermarket visit and a stay at a hippie commune. The story is periodically interrupted by documentary-style discussions among the bikers and with members of the “Red Cell German Studies Munich,” addressing repression, violence and resistance.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Michi flees his extremely wealthy and utterly smug family for a biker commune in the countryside near Munich. When the bikers discover that he comes from a rich family, they set Alice on him and stage a kidnapping for his parents, demanding ransom for his return. Hasi, the leader of the bikers, is the driving force behind the scheme. Michi and Alice spend a lot of time together and fall in love. We see them looking for work, causing a commotion in a supermarket, unsuccessfully trying to find a guesthouse room for an unmarried couple, and indulging in a hashish binge at a hippie commune. When Alice receives her share of the ransom, Michi sees through the deceitful scheme. Nevertheless, he wants to stay with the bikers, but they drive him away. He comes back and stabs Alice to death. When Hasi tells him that Alice really did love him, he kills himself too. The film ends with wild motorcycle rides along country roads in Upper Bavaria, accompanied by the sound of Amon Düül II. The main story is repeatedly interrupted by documentary-style discussions, for example among the bikers, who are finishing their vocational training despite repression from their employers, or between the bikers and members of the “Red Cell German Studies Munich” about violence and resistance.
