An insurance executive is forced to navigate a series of lethal games to save his family while a detective hunts for the truth behind the Jigsaw Killer's successor.

The story

Saw VI follows the aftermath of the Jigsaw Killer's actions as Detective Lieutenant Mark Hoffman continues his work as a successor. The narrative centers on insurance executive William Easton, who is abducted and forced to participate in a series of deadly "games" designed to test his morality and save his employees and family. Simultaneously, the FBI re-opens an investigation into the identity of Jigsaw's accomplice, suspecting that a previously framed agent was innocent. This investigation puts Hoffman in a position where he must move to protect his secret identity while the police analyze evidence from previous traps.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Predatory lenders Eddie and Simone are trapped in head harnesses and must cut flesh from their bodies to tip a scale; Simone survives while Eddie dies. Mark Hoffman, having escaped a trap that killed FBI agent Peter Strahm, uses Strahm's severed hand to plant fingerprints at the scene. While the FBI investigates, Hoffman abducts health insurance executive William Easton and his associates to an abandoned zoo. Easton must complete several tests, including saving employees from a vise, an aquarium, and a boiler room, ultimately losing several people in the process. The games are observed by various people, including a mother and son, and a news journalist. Meanwhile, Hoffman is confronted by the police but manages to kill them after his voice is unscrambled from a tape. Jill Tuck, holding a box of John Kramer's last requests, eventually ambushes Hoffman and locks a reverse bear trap to his head. In the final game, Easton reunites with his sister Pamela, but the widow and son of a former client, Tara and Brent, are forced to decide his fate. Brent pulls a lever, releasing acid that kills Easton. Hoffman manages to break free from Jill's trap, though it leaves him permanently scarred.
